PBS Student Reporting Lab: Student Voices
MEA is the only Bay Area Student Reporting Lab for the PBS NewsHour. Our students have the opportunity to work with PBS’ comprehensive media curriculum and develop stories that are posted on the PBS NewsHour website and broadcast on national television. MEA has been worked with PBS to develop stories on social and political topics about issues affecting youth. Stories by MEA students have reached a national audience on the NewsHour website and broadcast television and included stories about the 2012 National Election, the tragedy at Newton, Connecticut, gun control and violence in America, the high school drop-out rate. Advanced MEA students recently completed and edited a series of “student voice” interviews on the topic of “Improving Graduation Rates in America.”
